The Government on Wednesday evening finally notified the Regional Plan 2021 for the border talukas of Pernem and Canacona as a result of which they come into force immediately. Speaking to media persons, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said that the policies enunciated in the plan will be applicable for the whole state.
There has been a hue and cry over the notification of the Regional Plan 2021 with the Goa Bachao Abhiyan threatening to launch another massive agitation to coincide with the Golden Jubilee celebration of Goa’s liberation on 19th December if the plans were not notified.
It may be recalled that prior to the last Assembly elections, Goa witnessed a mass uprising against the Regional Plan 2011 that shook the very foundation of the Congress government in the State and after being sworn-in as the Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat immediately scrapped the plan.
Then began the arduous task of preparing the new Regional Plan 2021. A draft plan was sent to all the panchayats for their suggestions and objections following which the Town & Country Planning Department started the work of compiling the data.
While the plans for Pernem and Canacona have been notified, those for Ponda and Sattari are expected to be notified shortly.
