Rs 10 crore cash part of Rs 40 crore contract business run by priests of Archdiocese of Jalandhar

Jalandhar: In shocking revelation during interrogation by Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax officials, Fr Anthony Madaserry – a close aide of accused rapist Bishop Franco Mulakkal – has confessed that he along with three priests were running a Rs 40 crore contract business.

The contract business focused on sales of books and stationary to private schools, construction jobs in and around Jalandhar and Kerala, security services for private schools.

Fr Anthony further confessed that he was running this business which is not related to any Church activities with three other priests – Fr Jose Palakuzha, Fr Paul and Fr Shine under a partnership firm – Sahodaya.

In his defence to the ED and IT officials, Fr Anthony stated that the cash of Rs 10 crores has been raised from the sale of books at 46 counters outside private schools of Punjab, including some convent schools.

“The Church has permitted me to do business. It is permissible under the Canon Law. I have not done anything wrong,” Fr Anthony continues to defend being caught with unaccounted for cash.

Fr Anthony and team are also running a coaching class business – Shine Coaching – the coaching class is for entrance tests.

Besides the business ventures, Fr Anthony also runs two NGOs – Navjeevan Charitable Trust is for helping destitute women. His generalate houses a shelter for the disabled, being managed by another congregation, Friends of the Birds of the Air.

The IT team told IndianExpose.com that they suspect Fr Anthony was routing the unaccounted cash earned from his businesses through these trusts and NGOs to convert them into white. Fr Anthony, however, denied any allegation of possessing hawala or black money.

  1. Cash must be Church money for the election/ These priests are too cunning and arrogant. ED and IT need to be very tough with him. Which business of selling books or contract need Rs. 17 crore cash at home? These chaps thought like under UPA Govt. no one will question them.
