Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Thursday announced the creation of a corpus of Rs. one crore with support from corporate houses to support Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) working for the welfare of the marginalized and downtrodden sections of society in the State.
Speaking to media persons after disbursing Rs. 25 lakhs to 29 different NGOs in the State, he said the corpus would be increased depending upon the requirement and added that the beneficiary NGO will be decided on a case to case basis.
Although the activities that will qualify the NGO for funds under this scheme have not yet been identified, Digambar said it will be given to those organizations working for the welfare of not only the downtrodden sections but also marginalized sections including aged, HIV positive, etc.
He said the government, through these schemes, was trying to recognize the services rendered by the NGOs for the welfare of the State and its people.
