RTI Activist meet Governor, Demands sacking of AG

Adv. Aires Rodrigues has today urged Goa Governor B.V Wanchoo  to immediately sack Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni for holding a public sponsored party on November 23rd night at the five starred Taj Fort Aguada to celebrate his 50th birthday.

Adv. Rodrigues called on Governor Wanchoo at Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum stating that by this gross misconduct Atmaram Nadkarni had brought utter disgrace to the very high constitutional post of Advocate General and had forfeited all moral authority to continue on the post.

Adv. Rodrigues told Governor Wanchoo that as the Advocate General is someone who qualifies to be a High Court Judge, his conduct at all times had to be that what is expected of a High Court Judge.

Pointing out that such sponsored birthdays of politicians may be a routine affair, Adv. Rodrigues told Governor Wanchoo that the Advocate General should never have stooped so low.

Adv. Rodrigues drew Governor Wanchoo’s attention that the birthday party which had around 400 guests with imported Scotch whisky flowing through the night was estimated to have cost around Rs 20 lakhs and that the controversial Calangute de-facto Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira was the fundraiser for that bash.

Adv Rodrigues informed Governor Wanchoo that the Taj Hotel had issued a bill of Rs 14 lakhs for food and alcohol in the name of Joseph Sequeira whose illegal hotel at Candolim is currently under the scanner of the Bombay High Court at Goa.

Adv. Rodrigues further informed Governor Wanchoo that the same bill of Rs 14 lakhs was yesterday re-issued in the name of a Calangute resident Jude Fernandes who works in House keeping section at the Sukhmantra hotel in Candolim.

Drawing Governor Wanchoo’s attention that the party was attended by some notorious elements including prime accused in the illegal mining scam,  Adv. Rodrigues stated that in a clear conflict of interest those having petitions pending in the High Court against the government also attended the party.

Adv. Rodrigues also stated that the birthday party which continued into the early hours of 24th morning was in rank violation of the Excise rules and the Madhya Pradesh Sound Act and Noise Pollution Rules.

Adv. Rodrigues urged Governor Wanchoo to order a speedy probe into the source of this huge questionable expenditure and the other violations by gross abuse and misuse of power by Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni.
