Stating the need to strengthen the Goa Lokayukta Act by incorporating stringent sections of other Lokayukta Acts, Adv. Rodrigues has stated that the amendments passed by Goa Legislative Assembly yesterday would infact render the Lokayukta Act toothless and meaningless.
Accusing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of misleading the legislators by falsely claiming that the amendments were on the lines of the Karnataka Lokayukta Act, Adv. Rodrigues has stated that the amendments infact are directly contrary to the provisions of the Karnataka Act.
Adv. Rodrigues has pointed out that for filing a frivolous complaint the Karnataka Act provides a fine of Rs 2000 to a maximum of Rs 5000.
Disputing whether Justice Sudershan Reddy had really infact suggested these amendments, Adv. Rodrigues has wondered as to how Justice Reddy could have made any suggestions even before being appointed as the Lokayukta.
Adv. Rodrigues has further demanded that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar should also tell the people of Goa as to whether these were the only amendments suggested by Justice Sudershan Reddy.
Alleging that the amendments were the brain child of Mr. Manohar Parrikar to deter people from approaching the Lokayukta, Adv. Rodrigues has expressed confidence that nothing could dampen the people’s determination and resolve to battle the malady of the current rampant corruption and maladministration prevailing in the State
