On Tuesday, the then suspended Assistant Police Inspector was dismissed from police service. The order terminating Waze’s service was issued by Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale. Waze was earlier suspended after his arrest on 13th March by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the case of an explosive laden SUV which was found parked outside Antilia, industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence, and the murder case of businessman Mansukh Hiran.
At 7:43 PM on 11th May, even the official Twitter handle of Mumbai Police posted a tweet that read, “API Sachin Waze has been dismissed from Police service with immediate effect. The order of dismissal has been issued under Article 311 (2) (B) of the Constitution of India”.

Article 311 and the related sub-sections deal with the dismissal, removal, or demotion in the rank of persons in civil capacities under the Union or a State on certain grounds. Sachin Waze who was popular because of his title of ‘encounter specialist’ has had a shady history at work. He was reinstated into the Mumbai Police Force in June 2020, earlier to which Waze was suspended for a long span of 16 years over the allegations of custodial murder.
After he got back into Mumbai Police, he was appointed as the head of the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU), which is an elite branch of the Mumbai Police. Also, the FIR against the ex-Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh categorically states that he was aware of this reinstatement. The ‘encounter specialist’, as the head of the CIU, was given the duty to handle sensational cases one after the other. The fake TRP case, the fake social media followers case, the DC car finance scam were all led by him before he began investigating the Antilia bomb scare case, in which later on, he turned out to be an accused. He had enjoyed, ‘exclusive’ importance in Mumbai Police as he reported directly to the then Police Commissioner, Parambir Singh.
A green Scorpio, laden with gelatin sticks was found parked outside Mukesh Ambani’s residence on 25th February. This matter was earlier being looked into by the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) after which, it was handed over to the NIA. Along with this, the dead body of Mansukh Hiran was found in a creek in Thane on March 5th. Hiran was the owner of the Scorpio used in the bomb scare plot. Mansukh had claimed that the SUV had been stolen a week earlier. Waze is allegedly a key player in both the cases which are being looked at as one by the NIA. The NIA has so far arrested nearly six individuals in this case including Sachin Waze, suspended constable Vinayak Shinde, Cricket Bookie Naresh Gaur, Crime Branch Senior Inspector Sunil Mane and Waze’s CIU colleague Riyazuddin Kazi.
The process of Waze’s dismissal had begun one month earlier and the Mumbai Special Branch had written a letter to the Maharashtra ATS, through which they had sought all the documents related to the case so that the process could be initiated.
Along with the alleged terror- plot and the murder case, Sachin Waze has also been named in the extortion racket rampant in Maharashtra. In a letter written to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the former Mumbai police Commissioner had mentioned that it was Sachin Waze who was asked to extort 100 crores a month from bars and restaurants by the former Home Minister of Maharashtra, Anil Deshmukh.
In April, a Mumbai police report submitted to the Maharashtra Home Department said that Waze was appointed to the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) by Parambir Singh, despite the then Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) objecting to this move. Sachin Waze is currently in judicial custody in Mumbai, at the Taloja Central Prison.
Hemant Nagrale, on the other hand, remained mum on whether the other two suspended officers- Assistant Inspector Riyazuddin Kazi and Inspector Sunil Mane would also be sacked from the Police service. Nevertheless, he cited Waze’s involvement in the bomb scare case, concealment, and destruction of evidence and his role in the Hiran murder case. Nagrale further mentioned that Waze had booked a room in Hotel Oberoi for 100 days using a fake identity card, possessed 62 unaccounted for live ammunition, and also lost 25 live rounds from the official service pistol without reporting it.
In addition to this, the dismissal order also states that Rs 5.73 lakh was recovered from his vehicle while he had floated various companies, and crores of rupees were found in their bank accounts with massive financial transactions.
The Superintendent of Police, NIA, was asked to ensure that a copy of the order reached Waze.
