Sanjay Kavlekar won the National Open Chess Tournament for the Blind which concluded at the Fatorda Stadium, Margao, on Sunday 31st October. Madan Bagayatkar and Vishashali Salavkar bagged second and third place respectively.
In Goa, for the first time, the Chess Championship for the Blind was organized jointly by the Lions Club International, All India Chess Federation for the Blind and Sports Authority of Goa. In all 123 participants from 11 States in the Country participated in the championship.
Speaking on the occasion, Lions Club International District 324-D District Governor Nitin Maganlal, chief guest, expressed satisfaction over the opportunity they got to organize a chess tournament for the blind.
All India Chess Federation for the Blind General Secretary Charudatta Jadhava expressed gratitude over oragnising the event in Goa and hoped that Goa will be the venue for more events in the near future. He said that the federation during last 12 years has sent about 16 teams for World Championships and even won a gold medal.
While Organising Committee Chairman Angelo Alcasoas welcomed the guests, Organising Secretary Pundalik Gaokar proposed the vote of thanks.
