SC allows E-Auctioning of Iron Ore

In a major relief to the state government currently facing a ban on mining of iron-ore, the Supreme Court has in its order today allowed e-auctioning of 11.48 million tonnes of extracted iron ore in Goa under supervision of a panel.

Post the Justice MB Shah ‘Goa Illegal Mining’ report, the Chief Minister of Goa had stop mining in the state but allowed for transportation of already mined ore and iron-ore in dumps. However, Union Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) cancelled all EC clearances, further creating a stumbling block to exporting of iron-ore. Following which Goa Foundation filed a petition in the Apex Court which led to the SC banning mining in the state.

Post the SC ban on mining various demonstrations and political efforts have been made by affected businessmen, politicians and pro-mining activists to ensure mining is restarted.
