Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth, who has confirmed his entry into politics, on Sunday said the Supreme Court has ensured that justice is prevailed in the Karnataka political turmoil after the recent Assembly poll result which gave a fractured mandate.
Talking to reporters after a meeting with office-bearers of the women’s wing of Rajini Makkal Mandram at his Poes Garden residence here, he said it was wrong on the part of Karnataka Governor to grant 15 days’ time to Mr B S Yeddyurappa to prove his majority in the Assembly.
“Thankfully Justice was ensured by the Supreme Court. It is a victory for democracy”, he said, about the resignation of the BJP government and the Governor inviting Congress-JD(S) combine to form the next government in Karnataka.
The one man BJP government headed by Mr Yeddyurappa was sworn in on Thursday, but he was forced to resign on Saturday as the BJP, which had won a mere 104 seats, failed to secure numbers for a majority, after the Supreme Court directed him to seek a trust vote immediately.
Reacting to the Cauvery verdict by Supreme Court, Rajinikanth welcomed it and said the Court orders should be implemented immediately.
He also said the control over the dams should not be with Karnataka and it should be vested with the Cauvery River Water Authority.
“Only then Tamil Nadu will get justice”, he added.
Asked his non-participation in the all-party meeting convened by actor-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiyam Founder Kamal Haasan on the Cauvery issue, Rajini said he did not attend as he was yet to launch his own political party.
“Though he invited me, I cannot attend because I am still to start my party. May be in future, we will associate ourselves with him on such issues”, Rajini added.
Expressing happiness over women evincing keen interest to join his Rajini Makkal Manram, the actor said “whoever respects women have achieved success. I assure that women will be given due importance in my political party that will be launched soon”, Rajini said.
