SC Order a vindication to our stand of suspending mining operations: CM

Playing to the galleries in a hope to score brownie points with the people of the state on illegal mining, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar termed the Supreme Court order suspending all mining operations in the state including transportation of iron-ore already mined as a vindication of his government stand in stopping mining and its transportation in the state.

While there is no denying that the Chief Minister had indeed issued a notification whereby mining operation were stopped in the state; the CMs statement on the transportation of iron-ore already mined (referring also to the mining dumps) is a contradiction because the government through its own notification stated that transportation of iron-ore already mined or lying at the jetties would be permitted to be exported after thorough inspection. But the Supreme Court order has now put a roadblock to this attempt of the government to pacify the mining companies and mining-affected people.

The Supreme Court order banning all mining operations in the state has left the mining companies and mining-affected people with little hope of seeing mining operations resuming in the state shortly.
