New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India provided relief to Republic Network Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami as it extended protection from arrest by three-more weeks. But the FIR investigation in Mumbai to continue.
The Supreme Court Bench of Justice Shah and Justice Chandrachud observed that India’s freedom of press stays as long as journalists can speak truth to power.
SC further asserted that the Article 32 of the Constitution protects fundamental right of citizens. Petitioner is a media journalist and journalists have a fundamental right to speak truth to power. “Duty of court to protect right to Freedom of expression”.
The Apex Court of India championed press freedom saying, “Free citizens can’t exist if news media can’t speak.”
In hard hitting observations, the SC Bench stated, “Multiple complaints will have stifling effect”.
