SC refuses to stay CAA implementation, asks Centre to file response

New Delhi, Dec 18 (GCCurrentAffairs) The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to grant stay on the recently enacted Citizenship Amendment Act but issued notices to all petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the act.

A three-judge bench comprising Chief Juctice of India S A Bobde asked the Centre to file its response by second week of January.

The petitioners in their plea had highlighted that CAA violates secularism, which is a basic structure of the Constitution and promotes religious based discrimination.

The bench fixed January 22 as next date of hearing in the case.
