Scrap Mopa before Goa Statehood Day demands Sardesai

Terming the action of naming the South Goa Collectorate after the Late Matanhy Saldanha as being an eye-wash and an act of fooling the people of Goa by the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Fatorda Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai has demanded that the government scrap the Mopa Airport project before the Goa Statehood Day (May 30th) – which is day that the government plans to have the naming ceremony of the new South Goa Collectorate building.

“Matanhy Saldanha had always opposed Mopa. The CM tried to lead the people astray in the Assembly trying to tell them that Matanhy had agreed to the Mopa airport. Today, the former leader’s close-friend Fr Eremito Rebello has decided to take-up the issue of retaining Mopa and has proved to the people who had turned up in large numbers at Lohia Maidan yesterday that Dabolim is the only airport Goa requires and Mopa is a political-real estate nexus,” Sardesai asserted.

If Parrikar and his government truly want to retain the legacy of Goa’s valiant activist and their former minister, they should scrap Mopa since he was totally against it and do it on the day they plan to name the South Goa Collectorate in his memory.”
