Panaji: State Election Commission (SEC) in Goa has announced elections in five municipal councils to be held on March 21, 2021.
The elections to the five municipal councils were cancelled after Bombay High Court at Goa had set aside the notification of Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) on reservation of wards in Mormugao, Margao, Mapusa, Quepem and Sanguem municipal councils where elections were scheduled to be held.
However, the Supreme Court stayed the High Court order after which the SEC announced elections in the five municipal councils.
The SEC on Thursday issued a notification resuming the election process in the five municipal councils. The counting of votes will take place on March 22, 2021. With the notification model code of conduct came into force in the municipalities with immediate effect.
The five municipal councils were scheduled to go for polls along with other six municipal councils on March 20, 2021.
