The second day of Goa Legislative Assembly, monsoon session of which started on Thursday was adjourned for the day without transacting any business as the opposition led by Congress continued to disrupt the proceedings for the second day.
When the House assembled in the morning and Question Hour began, the opposition MLAs led by Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavlekar continued with the yesterday’s demand that there must be discussion on the issue of formalin in the fish. But it was not accpeted by the treasury benches and this led to noisy scene. When in spite of Speaker saying again and again that the discussion would be taken up on next Monday, the Congress members stuck to their demand. Seeing opposition members holding to their demand, Speaker Pramod Sawant adjourned the House till 1430 hrs.
In the afternoon, when the House assembled again at 1430 hrs, the Speaker allowed BJP MLA Pravin Zantye to move his private member rosultion but the opposition MLAs led by Mr Kavlekar rushed to the well of the House and repeated the same demand. Though the Speaker repeatedly requested the opposition members to agree to have discussion on Monday, the MLAs did not agree. After this the Speaker adjourned the House till 1130 hrs of Monday.
On Thursday, the House was adjourned five times and no business was conducted on the same issue.
While Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar termed the demand of the opposition an attempt to get ‘cheap’ publicity, Speaker Pramod Sawant said it was not proper on the part of the opposition not to allow the Chair to conduct business proceedings.
