Security beefed up at Meenakshi temple ahead of Babri Masjid demolition anniversary

Madurai, Nov 28 (GCCurrentAffairs) Security has been beefed up in and around the renowned Sri Meenakshi-Sundareswarar Temple here on Thursday in the wake of the 27th anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition on December 6.
Security in and around the temple had been strengthened with additional deployment of about 100 police personnel in addition to the existing 150 numbers of uniformed men on rotation basis, police sources said.
Police ramped up security at the temple this year in advance, in the wake of the recent Supreme Court verdict on the decades-old Ayodhya dispute that paved the way for the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site at Ayodhya.
City Police Commissioner of Police S Davidson Devasirvatham visited the temple along with the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) E.Karthik and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) K.Sugumaran and reviewed the security arrangements. He also verified the functioning of CCTV cameras and the police control room inside the temple premises.
Later, talking to newsmen, Mr Davidson said it was a routine security review being carried out every year ahead of the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports said that the temple had received bomb threat, following which the police had enhanced the security arrangements and conducted anti-sabotage checks inside the temple complex.
