Security tightened in South TN ahead of Babri Masjid demolition anniversary


Madurai, Dec 5 (GCCurrentAffairs) Security measures have been strengthened in Southern districts of Tamil Nadu on Thursday in the wake of 27th anniversary of demolition of Babri Masjid, on Friday.

Police said all the important places of worship, vital installations, railway stations, bus stands, railway over bridges and railway tracks were brought under the security blanket.

Armed policemen were keeping a round-the-clock vigil at historic temples like Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple at Madurai, Sri Dhandayuthapani temple atop Palani hill, Sri Ramanatha Swamy temple in Rameswaram, Arulmigu Aandal temple at Srivilliputhur, Arulmi Bhagavathy Amman temple in Kanyakumari.

The devotees were not allowed to carry baggages inside the temples.

Similar exhaustive security arrangements have been made in the Central and delta districts of Tamil Nadu.
The Indian maritime forces have intensified surveillance along the entire south eastern coast as a precautionary measure.
