Sesa Goa Limited’s five units — Sonshi, Codli and Bicholim mines, the pig iron plant and met coke division in Amona mines have been selected for the prestigious British Safety Council’s International Safety Award for the year 2011. The awards will be presented at Grosvenor House, London next month.
The British Safety Council’s International Safety Awards recognise and reward organisations across the globe which show a real commitment to improving corporate health and safety. The applications were marked and evaluated based on rigorous standardisation procedures by independent adjudicators. The selection procedure involved an extensive assessment of the mining units while evaluating safety practices and processes implemented at the sites.
Sesa Goa’s Managing Director P K Mukherjee expressed happiness over international recognition of his company’s commitment to sustainability journey in the areas of health, safety and well being of the work force at the work place. “Such distinction to Sesa amongst its peers, both nationally and internationally, would definitely encourage industries in Goa to bring in world class practices in these areas of sustainability,” he said.
