Acting on the tip-off from its counterparts in Manipur, Goa police on Saturday evening raided a beauty cum massage parlour at Candolim and rescued 11 girls from Manipur who were employed as beauticians but forced into prostitution there.
The police also arrested five boys working at the parlour and detained the owner Mahalaxmi Mishra. Police disclosed that the Superintendent of Police from Manipur had written to the Goa police about human trafficking as girls from that State were being brought into Goa.
Auda Viegas of Bailancho Ekvott who was called in to assist the raid, expressed surprise that the girls who had no training in beauty care were employed as beauticians and implied that they were being used for flesh trade.
Mahalaxmi Mishra created ruckus at the women’s police station at Panjim where she was locked up with the victims and the boys as she kept screaming that she had done no wrong.
Incidentally this is the second time that Mishra is implicated in prostitution. In June this year, her girls working at her parlour were detained for prostitution and Mishra had kicked up quite a row by even complaining to the Goa State Women’s Commission that she was being harassed by the police.
