Panjim: Following the outrage over social media over video showing molestation of a young girl, the Chief coach of the Goa state swimming team, Surajit Ganguly, has been sacked by the Swimming Federation of India (SFI).
SFI President Digambar Kamat told GoaChronicle.com that he had sought a report from the state body about the incident.
“We have taken a suo moto step after the video surfaced online. We don’t yet know where the incident took place, but we are trying to find out. He is not a permanent coach in Goa. He was hired to train students in swimming,” Kamat said.
The filmmaker Vinod Kapri uploaded grabs of the video and tagged Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, seeking action against the coach.
Subsequently Rijiju directed the SFI to ensure that the coach is not employed anywhere in India and to investigate matter.
