Justice MB Shah has presented the ‘Goa Illegal Mining Scam’ report to the Union Ministry of Mines. While the contents of the report has not be made public and the report is to be presented in the parliament shortly by the Minister Dinsha Patel.
GoaChronicle.com has learnt through reliable sources in the Union Ministry of Mines that the report has the following key observations;
1. Illegality rampant, as iron ore extraction done from outside the leased areas.
2. Most of the mines operating without deemed extension
3. Goa government failed to stop illegal mining and cause danger to environment.
Here are the recommendations;
1.Put a complete ban on exports from Goa.
2.Stop export of entire 100 MT as violation also rampant on other parts of the country
3. Quick and big money from exports main reason for illegal mining and transportation
It appears that Justice MB Shah has not named anyone politician in the report but has held the Goa government responsible of illegal mining and has also mentioned the violations of the mining companies in detail. Further more, the report indicates that many companies either as lease holders, operators or transporters have all utilised the lack of stringent measures to curb the activity to its advantage. With the report clearly blaming the previous Congress-led government, the question that is left to be answered is what is the action that the Congress party will take against the Goa former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat who was also the Minister for Mines.
