New Delhi: Days ahead of Durga Puja, Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina has sent four saris and 10kg sweets along with a congratulatory note as gifts to Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee.
According to sources on Tuesday, the gifts, that came on Monday-Durga Tritiya-were handed over to Banerjee by Bangladesh’s Deputy High Commissioner Toufique Hassan at Nabanna, the Bengal Secretariat in Kolkata.
The “close bond” between the two leaders was noticeable when they met at a cricket match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in November last year.
Exchange of pleasantries between the two leaders is also not new.
Hasina has often sent gifts and congratulatory messages to the Bengal CM and Banerjee too sends her wishes on every occasion.
“The ties between the two leaders are more like the relationship between two sisters. She (Hasina) does not miss any occasion to send her best wishes to Mamata Banerjee”, said an official at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission.
In September this year, Mamata had sent a letter to Hasina on her birthday wishing her a long and healthy life. The letter was accompanied by a bouquet of flowers and sweets.
Informatively, Banerjee had also congratulated Hasina’s family and the people of Bangladesh on Eid.
After Cyclone Amphan ravaged Bengal, the Bangladesh PM had called the CM to enquire.
Despite a ban on the export of Hilsa to India, the Bangladesh PM ensured that consignments reached Bengal during Monsoon this year.
