Shiv Sena mob attacks MRDA Officials for carrying out Bombay HC demolition orders

A case was filed against a Shiv Sena office-bearer and a mob of around 25 people for alleged physical assault on the MMRDA officials who went to demolish illegal constructions, the Narpoli Police said on Friday.
Following the instruction from the Bombay High Court, the MMRDA has been razing illegal buildings in and around Bhiwandi for the last two weeks.
In the same regard, the officials showed up at the Kasheli-Kalher villages in Bhiwandi town on Thursday unbeknownst of what’s coming in their way.
Led by Thane rural Sena Deputy Chief Devanand Thale, the irate mob manhandled MMRDA Legal Officer Milind Pradhan and his six peers at least, cops told.
The video of the incident, going viral on social media, captured the chaotic scenes of police shielding the officials from the aggressive villagers, with bulldozers in the background.
The villagers asserted that the MMRDA was not following due procedure while taking the action. They also alleged that the officials have taken huge bribes for allowing the construction.
Speaking on the matter, Bhiwandi Zone DCP Yogesh Chavan told the MMRDA is required to give notice to the residents seven days in advance of such actions.
Offenses under the relevant IPC sections as well as the pandemic-related acts have been filed against the accused late Thursday night. No arrest has been made yet, apprised senior Inspector Maloji Shinde.
Meanwhile, MLA Shantaram More told the media that he would take up the issue with the CM as many occupants have already paid stamp duty and got their flats registered.
