Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday launched the “Swasthya Agrah” (health request) and urged the people to follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour to stem the spread of the contagion.
The Chief Minister started the ‘Swasthya Agrah’ at the Minto Hall in Bhopal at 1230 hrs and during his 24-hour ‘sit-in’, he will interact with people online and conduct his official work from the venue.
Mr Chouhan said that he sat on ‘Swasthya Agrah’ following the path shown by the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
The aim of the sit-in is to spread the awareness among people about following the COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
He opined that lockdown is an easy solution, but it batters the economy.
A limited lockdown is okay, but a permanent one is not a solution, he added.
He asserted that the virus cannot be contained without active participation of the public.
“We are making efforts to arrange facilities to fight the pandemic at the government level, but the infection spread has to be stopped by (appropriate) social behaviour,” he said.
Mr Chouhan claimed that the surge in cases now is due to people lowering their guard.
He appealed to media, various sections of society and religious leaders to spread awareness about the virus.
