Siddaramaiah anguish over the Centre for not considering the name of late Shivakumaraswamy of Siddaganga Mutt for Bharat Ratna

Bengaluru, Jan 26 (GCCurrentAffairs) Expressing his anguish over the Union Government for not conferring Bharath Rathna award to most revered Siddaganga Seer Dr Shivakumara Swami, who passed away recently, former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah blamed the State BJP leaders for the miss.

Speaking to newsmen after participating in the Republic Day celebrations in the KPCC premises here on Saturday, he criticised State BJP President B S Yeddyurappa for not bringing pressure on the Union government on the issue.

Maintaining that the departed Swami was richly deserved for the coveted Bhartha Rathna Award, he opined that “the value of the award itself would have gone high had it been presented to the pontiff”.

However Siddaramaiah, however, welcomed the Union government’s decision to confer the country’s highest civilian award to former President Pranab Mukherjee.

While extending the Republic Day wishes to the people of the State, he said that “Country had achieved a lot in many spheres with the solid foundation laid down in the Constitution”.

Expressing dismay that some sections in the society are trying to sabotage the very fundamental spirits of the Indian Constitution, Mr Siddaramaiah exhorted the people to thwart any more such attempts in the future.

KPCC President Dinesh Gundu Rao, former Minister H M Revanna and Congress leaders were among those who attended the Republic Day function.
