Sikkim CM greets people on Maghe Sankranti Festival

Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang on Thursday wished people on the occasion of ‘ Maghe Sankranti’, the Sun starts moving towards the North.

The Chief Minister believes ‘ the festival to be the start of better days to come.’ He has wished for the ‘ safety, prosperity of Sikkim and success, abundance and good health for all the citizens.’

In his message, the Chief Minister states that the festival could not be celebrated in a grand manner this time due to the pandemic. He hopes and prays for the circumstances to improve and feels optimistic as the vaccination process will be commencing soon.

‘Maghe Sankranti’ marks the end of the month of ‘Poush’ and the beginning of ‘Magh’ as per Bikram Sambat (Nepali Calendar). Maghe Sankranti also known as ‘Makar Sankranti’ in other parts of the country, holds high religious and social significance and is celebrated as per the local customs, traditions, and beliefs. It also heralds the onset of warmer and longer days.
