Hyderabad, Aug 31 (GCSports) Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said ace shuttler P V Sindhu as the pride of the nation and athletes like her are role models for the youth.
Speaking to media at his residence here on Saturday after Ms Sindhu, who won gold in the BWF World Championships and became the first Indian, called on the Vice President along with her parents.
Hailing her hard work, dedication, and commitment of the 24-year-old, he said that she was a great inspiration to all the countrymen.
Complimenting Sindhu for following strict diet, rigorous and disciplined practice to achieve her goals, he said the Fit India call given by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi should become a national movement. It was apt, timely and most needed call, the Vice President said.
Mr Naidu said India has a great demographic dividend with 65 per cent of its population below 35 years of age and observed that it was necessary to have a healthy, active and productive young force to take the country to greater heights.
He said efforts such as Fit India were extremely relevant at a time when non-communicable diseases were on the rise due to changes in modern lifestyles and dietary habits.
Mr Venkaiah pointed out that fitness of the body and mind would not only keep individuals alert and smart but also gives them strength to achieve their goals and become socially useful.
He stressed that a healthy nation was a necessary pre-condition to become a wealthy nation.
