Thane: A special Investigative Team (SIT) has been formed in the Thane Police commissionerate to probe into the crime of extortion registered against the former Thane and Mumbai police chief Pram Bir Singh and 27 others including serving and retired police officers and their middlemen besides gangster Ravi Pujari.
An offence of extortion and other sections of the IPC had been registered with the Thane Nagar police station last week based on a complaint by one Ketan Tanna.
A senior police officer said that there will be five officers and other staff in a team.
Also sections falling under the Arms Act has been registered in the infamous case which the complainant claimed was a false one to extract monies from him.
The others named in the FIR include the police officers DCP Deepak Deoraj, ACP NT Kadam, PI Pradeep Sharma (Rtd), PI Rajkumar Kothmire, gangster Ravi Pujari, journalist Binu Vergeese and others totalling 28.
In a related development Sharma who is lodged in a jail presently has filed a pre arrest bail application in the court, it was learnt.
However, no arrest was made in connection with this crime registered with the Thane city police so far.
