Six-month-old’s eyes donated in Himachal

Kangra: A couple, who lost their six-month-baby girl to a respiratory disease, has donated her eyes to Dr Rajinder Prasad Government Medical college eye bank.

Atul Chaudhary, who is serving as a lecturer in the Education department and his wife Minakshi Chaudhary a staff nurse in Dr Rajinder Prasad Govt. Medical College Tanda became parents in May. Everything went on well for nearly six months but then the baby developed a respiratory problem and was admitted in the DRPGMC Tanda where she died on November 15.

The couple decided to donate the baby’s body to the medical college so that her organs could save lives. Chaudhary told that as there was no facility for donating the organs at DRPG medical college Tanda, they couple decided to at least donate her eyes to give a fresh lease of life to some others.

What gives them solace, the distraught father said, was the fact that their daughter will continue to live on through someone’s eyes at least.
The couple also urged people to come forward and pledge their organs.
