Srinagar, Mar 29 (InsideKashmir) A 65-year-old man, who was tested positive for coronavirus, died on Sunday at a government hospital in Kashmir valley, taking the death toll to two.
“A coronavirus affected patient, resident of Tangmarg in north Kashmir district of Baramulla passed away at chest disease hospital in Srinagar on Sunday morning,” an official said.
He said the patient had tested for the infection at SHMS hospital on Saturday following which he was shifted to C D hospital.
Confirming the death on micro-blogging site twitter, J&K Union Territory spokesperson Rohit Kansal wrote, “sad start to the day. unfortunate demise of a coronavirus patient in Srinagar this Morning.”
With this the total number of deaths due to coronavirus has risen to two in Kashmir, where there are still 20 ‘active positive’ cases while one patient was treated successfully so far.
A 65-year-old Hyderpora resident became the first person to die due to deadly infection in J&K on Thursday.
The highest number of nine positive coronavirus cases was recorded in Kashmir in a single day on Saturday, triggering panic among locals despite assurance by administration that they are fully prepared to curtail the infection.
“Now the situation as it unfolds is before us. My humble request to everyone: let’s not get scared by numbers, let’s redouble our efforts to win this battle together,” Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Shahid Iqbal Choudhary twitted
