Farmers from Chorao have installed a nearly 1-km long electrical fence to protect their crop from wild animals. But what is unique about this fence is that it is powered by solar energy and not electricity as most such fences are.
The solar powered fence has been set up by Varana and Patraman Khazan Association in order to protect nearly 54 hectares of land cultivated by 200 farmers. The Agriculture Department has given a 90 per cent subsidy to this Rs. 3 lakh project.
Erected in a period of 15 days, Kamat and Associates that provided the fence, have provided a one year warranty to it.
The fence will emit low current which will deter animals from crossing it thereby protecting the crop surrounded by the fence.
