Some trying to paint me with BJP colours : Rajini


Chennai, Nov 8 (IECurrentAffairs) Accusing the media of blowing out of proportion the alleged attempts to ‘saffronise’ Saint poet Thiruvalluvar, Superstar Rajinikanth today said a few people were trying to paint him with BJP colours.

Talking to reporters in front of his Poes Garden residence here, he said ‘attempts were being made to paint me and Tiruvalluvar with saffron.

‘It’s quite normal in politics’, he said and added that ‘neither me nor poet Thiruvalluvar will succumb to it’.
He also said a select few were trying to portray him as a BJP member.

Asked about reports of BJP trying to rope him, he said ‘BJP never made an appeal to me to join their party nor promised the post of State Unit Chief.’On BJP leader and former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan calling on him at his residence, Rajini clarified that ‘he visited me to just greet me on being selected for the Golden Icon award to be bestowed on him at the International Film Festival in India at Goa.’

‘However attempts are being made to paint me with saffron. I will never fall in the trap’, he said.’I should decide…I cannot accept that they depend on me’, Rajini said, in an apparent reference to reports that the BJP was wooing him.
