Margao: South Goa-based jeweller Swapnil Walke was stabbed today in the broad daylight near Sapna Plaza, Margao. The jeweller tried to foil the thieves but got stabbed in the back by a knife.

The thieves ran after stabbing the jeweller amidst the crowd. The video has gone viral on the internet. The jeweler was taken to the hospital later where he, unfortunately, succumbed to death.

Expressing shock over the tragic incident, Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant tweeted, “Shocked by the tragic incident at the jewelry outlet in Margao today. I have spoken to DGP and SP South Goa and asked them to investigate the incident and arrest the culprits at the earliest. We will ensure that stern action is taken and the guilty are brought to justice” tweeted Chief Minister.

The Leader of the Opposition, Congress MLA, Digambar Kamat, “Completely devastated with the news of daylight stabbing of a young businessman from Margao Swapnil Walke on his jewelry shop. The complete collapse of Law and order in the state of Goa. I demand immediate action in nabbing the murderers. Appeal to all to please remain safe.”

Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai stated, “Swapnil Walke, a young lad whom I saw grow as a neighbour. His daylight murder in attempted dacoity on his jewelry store means the collapse of law and order in Goa! Economic crises following COVID-19 will bring spurt in crime.
