South Goa Collectorate named after Late Matanhy Saldanha

The new South Goa district collectorate building was officially named as ‘Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex’ on Thursday, with the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar assuring that the complex will house all major departments which would serve as South Goa’s headquarters.

The announcement was made by Parrikar at a function held at the collectorate building in the presence of environment minister Alina Saldanha, industries minister Mahadev Naik, fisheries minister Avertano Furtado, Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik, Velim MLA Benjamin Silva, NRI commissioner Wilfred Mesquita and district collector N D Agrawal. Offices from the South Goa collectorate had shifted to the new complex on February 28.

Parrikar said that the Food and Drugs administration (FDA) will have a South Goa office at the collectorate and it will be manned by an officer of the rank of director. Parrikar said that the aim was to enable other government departments to have their offices in South Goa and have an officer of the rank of additional director but who would enjoy powers of a director. He added that the agriculture department; animal husbandry, women and child, directorate of panchayats amongst other departments will shift to the collectorate building and pointed out how the process of having an administrative tribunal in South Goa was underway.
