Even while a public meeting was convened in the evening, the South Goa Advocates Association on Monday morning resolved to boycott the court of the Principal Sessions Judge, South Goa, holding him responsible for the unjustified suspension of Additional Sessions Judge Desmond D’Costa.
Advocates boycotted all the courts in South Goa for the third consecutive day today protesting against the suspension of Judge Desmond D’Costa who is respected for not only being fair but also an efficient presiding officer.
In a bid to mitigate litigants’ woes, the advocates decided to attend only those matters pertaining to injunction and bail applications, Tuesday onwards.
Meanwhile, some advocates have demanded action against Principal Sessions Judge Utkarsh Bakre for being a cog in present times when speedy trial is the need of the hour.
“With an overload of pending cases and even when the Supreme Court has called for speedy trial, Judge Bakre’s reported instructions not to dispose matter speedily calls for an action against him”, said a member of South Goa Advocates Association who did not want to be named.
It may be recalled that Judge Desmond D’Costa was placed under suspension following Judge Bakre’s complaint camouflaged as a report against him for disposing off a custodial murder trial of Mahanand Naik.
Judge Desmond D’Costa who was hearing this case when Judge Bakre was on leave pronounced his judgment after the prosecution closed his case for want of witnesses.
