Even as the drive launched by the State Transport Department against trucks transporting ore resulted in over 200 cases being booked with 119 in South Goa, the South Goa Truck Owners Association (SGTOA) has called for an indefinite strike from Monday.
The Association has accused the Transport Department of going against its assurance not to fine trucks having wooden planks as on Saturday many such trucks were fined.
SGTOA President Prakash Raut Dessai said removal of the planks will result in the ore spilling on the road which would be a big problem for the locals and also render the road unsafe.
Besides the Association has also demanded a revision of the rates for transporting ore to Rs. 50 per tonne.
