South Goa MP writes to Union HRD to include ‘Cuncolim Revolt’ in CBSE curriculum

South Goa Member of Parliament (MP) Narendra Sawaikar wrote to the Union HRD Minister Prakash Javdekar to include the ‘Cuncolim Revolution’ in the CBSE curriculum.

Confirming this information which appeared on his social media site Twitter ID, Sawaikar, stated,”That he has written the HRD Minister Javdekar to include ‘Cuncolim Revolution’ in the CBSE curriculum.

The Cuncolim Revolution which occurred on July 25, 1583 is arguably and reportedly the first revolt against foreign oppression in India, 274 years before the known revolt of Mangal Pandey’s ‘Sepoy Mutiny’ in 1857. Villagers from Cuncolim that year killed proselytizing Roman Catholic priests and their armed escorts, who were in the process of converting villagers and desecrating Hindu temples in the region.
