Chennai: DMK President M K Stalin on Wednesday welcomed the release of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti after 14 months’ detention and wanted the democratic process should be reinstated in that State.
In a tweet, he also urged the Centre to release all other political detainees as well.
“I’m pleased to hear that Mehbooba Mufti has been released from detention after 14 months. I urge the Govt to release all other political detainees as well”, he said.
“The democratic processes, which have been suspended during this time, must also be reinstated”, Stalin further said.
Mufti and several other leaders were under detention since August five last year after the Centre abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution that provided special status to J and K and had bifurcated it into union territories.
