The Colva Gram Sabha at its meeting on Sunday directed the panchayat to issue stop work order for a housing project underway in the village on grounds that it has violated the construction rules in force in the State.
In the first place, the villagers pointed out that the access to the project was only 3.60 mts wide and rejected the argument that land has been acquired for road widening. The villagers demanded that the road be constructed first and then the project.
They also demanded that the compound wall be constructed after leaving the required set back which is three metres from the centre of the road.
Sarpanch Suzie Fernandes agreed to write to the Colva Police to take action against erring vendors after it was pointed out that vendors and particularly ice candy sellers were harassing visitors to the beach.
The Gram Sabha also resolved to erect signboards at Sernabatim junction asking people not to dump garbage there and to take stringent action against those found doing so despite the boards.
