Failure of the administration to reserve seats made the Goan contingent travelling to Chhattisgarh for the under-16 National Games, a harrowing journey. The Goan contingent comprised of around 72 students.
The young sportspersons who will be participating in athletics, basketball, hockey and badminton had to spend a night on a platform besides travelling all the way from Mumbai to Chhattisgarh standing.
While the journey on the Mandovi Express from Margao to Mumbai on 16th April was comfortable, the ordeal began when the students boarded the Geetanjali Express on 17th April for the second leg of their journey,
As only six tickets were confirmed, most of the students had to travel standing with some sitting on luggage and others sharing seats with other passengers.
The irony is that after travelling in such discomfort, the players are expected to participate in events scheduled barely 10 hours later.
Sports Authority of Goa Executive Director V M Prabhudessai while shifting the blame to the Nehru Yuva Kendra that handled the logistics and booked the tickets, also accused the students of exaggerating their so called ordeal.
