The CCP has been considered to be the strong-hold of Manohar Parrikar – Chief Minister of Goa – as it the Panjim constituency from which has been winning the Assembly seat for several years now.
The CCP election had its share of controversies when the government decided to not-hold the election, even though it was declared. Surdendra Furtado and others councillors had approached the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court questioning the undemocratic stance of the government. Following which the government decided to hold the elections on April 4th.
The un-democratic stance of the BJP-led government witnessed a strong reaction from the Opposition (Congress) in the Assembly, where even a walk-out was staged.
