Survey of Private Forests

The two committees constituted by the government to identify and map private forests, will shortly commence their work. The committees were constituted by the government following a directive from the Bombay High Court at Goa.

As the committee members will have to visit the private forests, the government has directed both the District Collectors to depute two surveyors from the Revenue Department to accompany the committee members to assist them in their task.

The surveyors will be identified by the concerned mamlatdars to cover the area within their jurisdiction and they in turn will help the committee members in identifying, locating and mapping the private forests.

Besides, the Superintendents of Police have also been directed to depute two police constables and one lady police constable as and when requisitioned by the committee members.

However, the member secretaries of both committees have been asked to submit in writing their requirements to the Collectors and SPs along with details like the area they propose to visit and the time and date of the visit.

As the work is undertaken following a directive of the High Court, public have also been asked to co-operate as otherwise it would tantamount to contempt of court.
