Sushil Modi files nomination for by-election to lone Rajya Sabha seat from Bihar

Patna: Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi today filed his nomination paper as NDA candidate for by-election to lone seat of Rajya Sabha from Bihar, which had fallen vacant after death of the then Union Minister and founder president of LJP Ram Vilas Paswan on October 8.

Mr Modi filed nomination paper in the office of divisional commissioner of Patna Sanjay Agarwal who has been made returning officer by Election Commission for by-election to lone seat of Rajya Sabha from Bihar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Ministers Tarkishore Prasad, Renu Devi, VIP president Mukesh Sahni who is also Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister and a number of other ministers besides NDA leaders were present when Mr Modi filed his nomination paper.

Rajya Sabha seat had fallen vacant after death of the then Union Minister Mr Paswan on October 8. He was elected to Rajya Sabha as NDA candidate after Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

Last date for filing of nomination papers is December 3 while scrutiny of the papers would be done on December 4. Willing candidates would have the option to withdraw their nomination papers by December 5. Voting would be held on December 14 if necessitated. Mr Modi is all set to be elected as NDA has 125 members in Bihar Assembly while Grand Alliance has only 110 members, AIMIM has five, LJP has one, BSP has one and one Independent. The lone Independent has extended his bsupport to NDA government.
