The award comprises of bronze plaque of Shri Dilip Sardessai, a certificate and cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat complimented Talasha Prabhu for winning the prestigious award through her hard work and determination. He also had a word of praise for her parents to encourage her to excel in swimming. He also advised the budding sports persons to take inspiration from Talasha Prabhu who represented the country and made Goa proud with her outstanding performance and achievements at the national and international level.
The Chief Minister appealed to the sportspersons to make best use of the sports facilities provided by the Government.
Dilip Sardessai sports excellence award is given as a tribute to the legendary cricketer of Goan origin and a source of inspiration to the upcoming sports persons in attaining greater heights at the International arena. The recipients of the award for the year 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 are outstanding footballers Mahesh Gawali and Climax Lawrence.
