Tar balls continued to wash ashore on the beaches in Goa even as efforts to clean the beaches were intensified. School children from Colva joined the clean up operations on Wednesday morning.
However, there appears to be no respite as the tar balls continue to be washed ashore. It is reported that four pick-up full of tar balls were taken away from Arossim beach alone.
Meanwhile, the Goa State Pollution Control Board that had collected samples of the tar balls on Tuesday, handed over some of them to Dr. Sanil Kumar at National Institute of Oceanography.
The authorities are facing a major problem of disposing the tar balls and have sought advice from experts on this matter.
According to sources, using the tar balls in place of bitumen for road works is under consideration.
