Tar Balls Re-Surface At Benaulim

Tar balls, the nemesis of tourism in Goa, surfaced once again at Benaulim beach on Saturday evening thereby raising once again concerns about monitoring of the territorial and international waters.
For last few years, black oily substance is being washed on the shores of Goan beaches during the monsoons which authorities have always tried to dismiss as caused by the change in ocean currents during the monsoons.

However, this year, the tar balls have made their presence felt even before the monsoons have set in thereby raising questions about the exact cause of this phenomenon.
Tar balls appeared at Benaulim beach on 18th April this year which raised concern as the tourism season is still on and this phenomenon is expected to adversely affect the tourism trade as in Goa tourism is linked primarily to its beaches.
