The two youngsters Manguesh Gaonkar and Dilip Velip who were killed on Wednesday thereby becoming martyrs for the cause of Tribal welfare, were give a tearful farewell Monday evening in their respective villages.
The bodies of the duo which were lying in the Goa Medical College morgue were taken over by their respective family members at around 4 pm only after South Goa Collector G P Naik was served the order suspending him from service.
The mortal remains of Dilip Velip were laid to rest in keeping with the Tribal tradition at Morpila in the presence of a large crowd comprising of not only people from the village but also other parts of the State. Earlier the body was taken to his residence and kept in the courtyard for about an hour.
Prominent amongst those who paid their last respects to Velip were BJP President Laxmikant Parsekar, MLAs Chandrakant Kavlekar, Ramesh Tawadkar and Meng Gaonkar and UTAA committee members.
Manguesh Gaonkar’s mortal remains were laid to rest at Gaondongrim where heart rending scenes with women wailing and youngsters crying bitterly prevailed.
As the ambulance carrying his body reached the residence, many of his family members fainted.
Prominent amongst those who came to pay their last respect to this extremely popular youngster in the village were BJP President Laxmikant Parsekar, former president Rajendra Arlekar, MLAs Ramesh Tawadkar (who accompanied the body from Bambolim), Vijay Pai Khot, Vasudev Meng Gaonkar, UTAA leaders including Prakash Velip, Narendra Sawaikar, former MLA Sanjay Bandekar and Canacona Municipal Council chairperson Rantakar Dhuri.
