Chief Minister Digambar Kamat laid the foundation stone for an Institute of Technology and Design at Assagao in Bardez talukas on Sunday. The institute is set up by Goa’s Pilar Fathers who have carved a niche for themselves in the field of education and particularly technical education not only in Goa but India as well.
Mr. Kamat also presented a cheque of Rs 95 lakh to the Agnel Institute for the project and in his address said that through education we could help India achieve the target of being a super power in coming years. While admitting that there are educational facilities in Goa, he opined that quality education is lacking and added that instituted like these could fill the gap.
Power Minister Aleixo Sequeira in his address praised the Pilar Society of Education more popularly known as Pilar Fathers for their service to the youth through educational facilities. He expressed confidence that the new institute will cater to the needs of students from North Goa as the society already has a sprawling technical education complex in South Goa at Verna, which incidentally is part of Mr. Sequeira’s constitutency.
