Telangana records 1,273 new COVID-19 cases, 5 fatalities in last 24 hours

Hyderabad: Telangana continued its upward spiral with 1,273 fresh COVID-19 cases till 2000 hours on Friday pushing the cumulative number of positive cases to 2,30,274 so far.

With five more patients succumbing to the deadly virus during the past 24, the overall COVID-19 deaths in the state has risen to 1,303 constituting a case fatality rate of 0.56 per cent as against the countrywide mortality rate of 1.5 per cent, a state health department bulletin said on Saturday.

The total number of patients who had recuperated from coronavirus has gone up to 2,09,043 till date as 1,708 patients had recovered between Thursday and Friday with a recovery rate of 90.77 per cent while the national average was 89.7 per cent.

The number of active cases in the state stood at 19,937 including 16,809 in-home and institutional isolation.

During the past 24 hours 35,280 samples were screened to detect coronavirus out of which the results of 1,088 swab samples were awaited.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 40,52,633 COVID-19 tests have been carried out in the state.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation remained the top contributor of the virus cases by recording 227 positive cases till Friday night, while its neighbours Medchal and Rangareddy districts have contributed 104 and 102 positive cases respectively.

The other districts registered the day’s remaining infection cases, the bulletin added.
