Heinous crimes like child trafficking are still very prevalent in Indian society. On a hand where the youth of the nation is bagging pride for the homeland, on the other, the future of the nation is being traded for satisfying the infinite lure of monetary gains by some knaves.

Widows, needy, and divorcee women were bribed monetarily and interstate scandal of child trafficking was put into effect in Nadiad of Gujarat.

A gang of 4 women was incarcerated by the Nadiad police under the charges of a heinous crime like child trafficking. The gang was engaged in trafficking infants.

As per the reports, the prime accused, Mayaben Lalji Bhai Dabla has been the mastermind of the trafficking crime. She has completed her third year of MBBS in 2001. After which she got married and shifted to Nadiad. However, after marriage, in search of a job, she took a job in a private hospital in Anand and later quit her job. Soon after resigning from the job, she started this racket of child trafficking and built contacts across different states.

The police investigations have revealed that the accused have delivered four women so far. The reports also said the accused had been engaged in looking for a customer to sell the baby near a grocery store. To haul the accused red-handedly, a trap was laid by sending a woman police personnel as a dummy customer. The deal of the infant was done by one of the accused clubs, Monica for INR 6 lakhs near the Santram temple.

As soon as the operation was successful, the police in plain clothes cordoned off the area and rushed the three women. When Radhikaben, the mother who gave birth to the child, had been through a cesarean section and was kept in a private hotel room who was later detained by the Nadiad police.

The prime accused, Maya Lalji Bhai Dabla studied the course of MBBS and left it mid-way after completing the third year. She got a job in a private IVF hospital of Anand district of Gujarat in the year 2006-07. Throughout her job, she delivered four women. However, after leaving the job she started her separate business of trafficking infants. Later she came in contact with the poor, divorced, and widowed women and encouraged her to sell her womb for monetary gains. As soon as a woman was ready to sell her womb, she would contact Pushpa (another accused in the gang) and start looking for a customer.

Monica Maheshbhai Shah, one of the four prime accused is a resident of Nadiad. Her role throughout the event was to search for a customer. Monica came in touch with a dummy customer who posed to the police with whom she had agreed to a child deal worth Rs 6 lakhs. Monica’s eloquence was so clear that it seemed as if she had been doing it for years. She also sent photos and videos of the baby to satisfy the customer.

Pushpa Sandeep Bhai Pateliya, another prime accused of the heinous crime of child trafficking played the role of the broker in the whole scam. Pushpa was in touch with Maya as she used to look for another broker after keeping her commission worth Rs 50,000 in a deal with anyone who finds a poor, destitute, divorced, or widowed woman. Pushpa also informed Monica about the sale of the baby and asked her to find a customer. According to the statement recorded by Pushpa, Monica had the conversation ahead.

Radhika Rahul Gadam, a woman from Nagpur who delivered a baby 4 days ago in the Nadiad Civil Hospital confronted a police investigation and confessed, after her divorce, she discovered her pregnancy. As she was in dire monetary need as there was no refuge, she came in touch with Maya. The accused got a new womb seller and a deal was done. The lure of money made the lady sell her baby.

According to the investigative reports, Maya had earlier dealt in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Goa where women have been delivered and children have been traded.

The investigation came across a woman named Sahid who confessed to having delivered thrice while Radhika did it once.

Further investigation is under process to search for the customers who dealt with this gang engaged in child trafficking.

A journey to glorious India has begun and there are many hurdles to overcome yet as there are many milestones to achieve yet.
